Philip Beard is a recovering attorney who is still "of counsel" with the firm of STONECIPHER, CUNNINGHAM, BEARD & SCHMITT, where he has practiced since 1990. His first novel, DEAR ZOE, has been translated into three foreign languages and was named by the American Library Association as one of its Ten Best First Novels of 2005. His second novel, LOST IN THE GARDEN, is scheduled for release by Viking in May, 2006. He lives in a virtually testosterone-free house outside of Pittsburgh with his wife, Traci, their three daughters, and a male golden retriever who squats when he pees. Each fall, he coaches the varsity golf team at Shady Side Academy, where his teams have lost just five regular-season matches in the last six years. He has never broken 70, nor made a wager with his wife on that score.
